I've surfed in mexica since the mid 70's up until the early 2000's. Mexico is not has not nor ever had been a safe place to travel.i like many others were just "lucky" !!!!!! That dude interviewed is flat out lying, tourists bring assaulted , murdered ,raped and tortured is almost a regular thing and its not slways criminals commiting the crimes ,sometimes its the cops ,doldiers , mexican officials.if you travel to mexico and get back safe your only lucky ,it in no way means its safe down there.

I drove many times from brownsville Texas to Veracruz and Jalapa. Last time i went was in 2016. Never had a problem. Had to give coffee money to the police roadblocks many times though.
