My daughter started college this year and had to do an orientation where she had to learn how to recognize and apologize for her white privilege. 18 years old. Easy solution, send them a Merriam Webster, or a page out of the Miriam Webster which has the definition of racist! How can anyone argue with that? It kind of reminds me of grade school, when one of us would use the wrong words when we were mad and all upset at somebody, “You, You, You, big fat, big, big, big, fat, your mama’s stupid head”! Ridiculous right? We didn’t all get offended by the kid that said the stupidest thing on earth when he was all frustrated and couldn’t think of words to describe what he was angry with. And then the other kids would laugh, taunt, and tease about what that poor , angry, frustrated, kid had just said. And the kid who said it would feel humiliated, because not only did he get mad, and feel out of control, but he had just been humiliated, he felt, on top of all that! Double humiliation, the kid thinks he’s never gonna get over this! He would be teased for days, and probably some “Wiseguy” would remember it at the end of the year and bring it up again and everybody would have a good laugh again. The kid learns! But yet we’re getting all offended by it as much as they’re offended by something they think is a racist which is not? I think we all need to grow up here especially us who know the definition of a racist! Here, maybe, look back on our grade school lessons, let us laugh at them! There’s nothing more humiliating and educational about that! I don’t like being humiliated, when I’m wrong, do you? Of course not! In my grade school days no one ever let me get away with something that’s this level of ignorant in the second grade! It made me think, “what do I have to do to not humiliate myself like this again? “Definitely I shouldn’t say, you, you, you, big fat, big, big fat your mothers stupid head, again.” Why? Because, It was proven to me to be nothing but ridiculousness, by my own peers. Even though I suffered humiliation I learned a great lesson. All the kids didn’t start saying the same strange string of words I just used that didn’t make sense, I was corrected, even though kids may do it cruelly, adults don’t have to, but it just goes to say,Do we need to take a step back to grade school and a child’s education from his peers?
